On the third day, we booked a Klook driver to take us around Suzhou for four hours. Our first stop was Tiger Hill. According to legend, He Lü, the King of the Wu State, died during a war against the Yue State. His son buried him on the hill, and three days after the funeral, a white tiger appeared and sat by the grave as if guarding it. Since then, the place has been known as Tiger Hill.

At the summit of Tiger Hill stands the Yunyan Temple Pagoda. As the oldest pagoda in the Suzhou area, it has become a symbol of the city and is famously known as China’s “Leaning Tower.”

After Tiger Hill, we visited Hanshan Temple, which is well known because of the poem “A Night Mooring by Maple Bridge” (枫桥夜泊). The poem depicts the lonely mood of a traveler moored at night at Fengqiao, listening to the bells of Hanshan Temple.

Our next stop was Panmen, which was recommended by the driver. Panmen is said to be the only city gate in China that has both a lower water entrance and an upper land entrance.

The final stop of the tour was a silk shop. After the four-hour tour around Suzhou, we went shopping at the mall connected to our hotel and had dinner with the Kin family. We tried the famous Squirrel Fish, a dish that is well known in Suzhou.
